Mae'r set hon wedi'i seilio
ar gân eithaf adnabyddus sef Cainc y Cathreiwr, fel y casglwyd gan
eicon diwylliannol Cymru Iolo Morganwg yn Sir Forgannwg. Tynnwyd yr
aradr gan ychen gan fod ceffylau yn rhy gostus i'r boblogaeth yn
gyffredinol; cafwyd llawer o adroddiadau am sut ymatebodd yr ych yn dda
i gerddoriaeth a goroesodd yr alawon fel caneuon. Cyhoeddodd Cymdeithas
Alawon Gwerin Cymru gasgliad ysblennydd Leila Salisbury o’r caneuon
gyda nodiadau esboniadol a bywgraffiad o Iolo mewn pryd ar gyfer yr
Eiseddfod Genedlaethol Bro Morgannwg yn 2012. Mae Jig Naid y Cathreiwr yn seiliedig ar yr alaw hon, wedi'i haddasu fel y bu llawer o alawon. Mae Slipio yn jig naid fodern sydd, er mewn y cywair lleiaf yn gorffen y set ar nodyn llon. |
This set is
founded on the fairly well known song Cainc
y Cathreiwr (The poughman's tune), as collected by the Welsh
cultural icon Iolo Morganwg in Glamorganshire. The plough was ox-drawn
since horses were too costly for the general population; there have
been many reports of how the ox responded well to music and tunes
survived as songs. The Welsh Folk Song Society published a splendid
collection by Leila Salisbury of the songs with explanatory notes and a
biography of Iolo when the National Eiseddfod was held in the Vale of
Glamorgan in 2012. Jig Naid y Cathreiwr is a slip jig based on this melody, adapted as many tunes have been. Slipio (slipping) is a modern slip jig which, although in a minor key initially finishes the set on a happy note.an style="font-style: italic;"> |
