set o alawon gydag elfennau cerddorol yn eu cysylltu. Daeth y ddwy alaw
gyntaf o chwarae melodionydd Mike Greenwood sy'n cadeirio Clwb Gwerin
Llantrisant. Mae Agoriad y Blodau yn alaw delyn hyfryd sy'n cael ei chwarae mewn amser dawns yma; mae'n cael ei briodoli i John Roberts, Telynor Cymru, a anwyd yn 1816. Mae Uchder Cader Idris yn rhedeg yn dda fel alaw ddawns; does dim tebygrwydd yn yr alaw i Agoriad y Blodau, ond mae'n cysylltu'n gerddorol gyda thrydydd alaw y set. Gwenynen Gwent oedd llysenw Arglwyddes Llanofer, noddwr a hyrwyddwr nodweddol ein cerddoriaeth draddodiadol a'r delyn deires o'i hystâd y tu allan i'r Fenni. Mae'r ddawns sy'n gysylltiedig â'r alaw hon yn ailadrodd rhan B mewn 48-bar yn hytrach na'r strwythur 32-bar sydd yn y set hon. Er ei bod eisoes yn set Codiad yr Ehedydd yn y casgliad hwn, mae'n cael ei chynnwys yma gan ei fod yn cyfuno elfennau o'r ddwy alaw gyntaf mor effeithiol. |
This
is a set of tunes which have inter-related elements. The first two
tunes came from the playing of melodeonist Mike Greenwood who chairs
Llantrisant Folk Club. Agoriad y Blodau is a beautiful lyrical piece which is played in dance time here; it is attributed to John Roberts, Telynor Cymru, born in 1816. The Height of Cader Idris runs well as a dance tune; its meoldy contrasts with Agoriad y Blodau but relates directly to the third tune in the set. Gwenynen Gwent (the busy Bee of Gwent) which was the nickname of Lady Llanover who was a great patron and promoter of Welsh traditional music and the triple harp from her estate outside Abergavenny. The dance associated with this tune repeats part B in a 48-bar rather than the usual 32-bar structure in this set. Although included in the Codiad yr Ehedydd set earlier in this collection, it is included here because it combines elements from the first two tunes. |
